Brighton Green Roof Workshop April
Last weekend we completed our fourth 2 day green roof workshop for the Permaculture Trust in Brighton. Tue turn out was good with over 20 delegates. The delegate,s included garden designers, landscaping contractors, students and people who just have an interest. We always highlight in Brighton the use of green roofs for Brighton’s Biodiversity Action Pland the the council’s activities in promoting green, brown and living roofs.
With the weather perfect we were able to visit a couple standard sedum green roofs near to the venue. Furthermore the Stringer School butterfly bank was nearby. We paid a visit the bank, which allowed us time to discuss how flowers work on green roofs in the same way as they do on think chalk soils. Also the bank as great topographic variety – which is good for a full range of butterflies. The principle we encourage in our workshops.
Certainly convinced that a few people will be building green roofs on their sheds in the next few weeks. Some of the delegates are keen to work with John and the Grass Roof Company and few of their future projects. Everyone who attend the workshop went home with the section they had constructed on the first and cd copy of our DIY guide.
Future courses include Staffordshire in May…more Essex in July…more
