The Oxford Green Roof Company is a small green roof design and build company based in Oxfordshire. They have taken a lot of advice from our DIY guide and both Dusty and John Little on setting up their company and how to build and approach the establishment of good green roofs. Their entry at RHS Hampton Court Flower Show provided a great example of the range of green roofs that are possible on small scale builds. Including a vegetable garden on top of a shed.

The garden entry also included a meadow roof over a hammock. This consisted of a wildflower turf pre-grown. When I visited the Ox-eye daisies were just going to seed. There were a few Knapweed in flower.

They had also created a habitat feature for bees and bugs on top of which was a small green roof, consisting of native grasses, wildflowers and sedums [mainly sedum acre].

A delightful heartsease was in full bloom.

The vegetable garden green roof had a range of plants, including lettuce, peppers and herbs.

All these small roofs could easily be incorporated into a big or small garden on existing features or new features built for the purpose.
